Sophia Rodriguez, AIA
Project Manager
Sophia is a licensed architect at Architecture 101 whose approach to design is rooted in curiosity, creativity, and a genuine fascination with people. A graduate of SCAD with a minor in Interior Design, she was among the university’s early IPAL graduates and received the Alpha Rho Chi Medal for her service and commitment to the architectural community. She became a licensed architect in 2024 and continues to seek out opportunities to grow as both a designer and a leader, including completing the Christopher Kelley Leadership Development Program.Sophia is drawn to the unique, the imperfect, and the little quirks that make people and places memorable. She is constantly looking for opportunities to bring more soul, humanity, and a little whimsy into the spaces she designs. That creative energy rarely stops when she leaves the office. Sophia almost always has a side project underway, especially around her own home, where she enjoys experimenting, making things, and finding new ways to personalize a space.Community is equally important to Sophia. She is naturally social, loves bringing people together, and is consistently drawn to leadership and service opportunities that allow her to uplift those around her. Her perfect day is appropriately full: coffee on the couch with her dog and a record playing, yoga, a nap at the beach, courtyard drinks with friends, and ending the night with a movie at home with her husband. What movie gets better every time you watch it?
When Harry Met SallyWhat would your spotify daylist (playlist) name be?
Completely depends on the day and time. "vibey funk pop" and "indie chill" are recurring themesWhat's a smell, sound, or texture that instantly takes you somewhere else?
1.The smell left on your hands after peeling an orange reminds me of my grandpa's house - we used to ride four wheelers through the orange groves. 2. Anytime I am barefoot outside, especially after it rains, reminds me of youth and freedom and all good things. What's a value you learned growing up that still guides you today?
"You can do anything you set your mind to."What's a risk you took that you're glad you took?
Flying to Japan by myself a few days earlier than my class. I got to take some time alone in Tokyo that I otherwise would not have had.Bonus Question: What's something you've built, fixed, or made with your own hands that
you're proud of?
I built a large hidden medicine cabinet (24" x 48") out of wood, and painted some birds on it, inspired by Mary Oliver's poetry. It hangs as a large artwork in the hallway. It makes me smile, and it is really functional!
